What is holistic nutrition or using food as medicine?


Holistic Nutrition looks at the body as a whole rather than individual pieces. We try to address root causes rather than offer band-aid solutions to rebuild the relationship with food from the ground up. Holistic Nutrition is using whole foods the way God intended. Whole foods are foods that are complete and perfect in their natural state. These foods contain a balance of vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, sugars, and countless other vital nutrients of bodies need. This is a big part of holistic living as our entire system is affected by the things we put into our bodies; as well as the things that we don't feed our bodies.


Diabetes is one of those health sturggles that is (1) preventable and (2) reversible. If you've developed or are at risk for type 2 diabetes, you are not sentenced to a life on medications. A whole foods, plant-based diet has been proven to prevent, and in many cases, reverse this disease.


Type 2 diabetes is not caused though by sugar and carbohydrate foods- it's mainly caused by a diet heavy in fat and animal foods. Avoiding refined sugar is always a good idea, but don't cut out whole carb foods or fruit.
