Maca Root: One of Nature's Superfoods

Looking for a natural and holistic way to improve your health and balance your hormones? Read on to learn more about the maca root and why it is considered one of nature's superfoods!

Maca is a root vegetable from Peru that was first used in the fifteen and sixteen hundreds. Fresh maca root can be baked and eaten just like a potato. It was first widely used to enhance fertility in both humans and animals.

It is now used here in the states in powder or supplement form and has been found to be one of nature's superfoods.

Some of its nutrtional benefits include being rich in antioxidants, protein, fiber and serveral vitmains and minerals like: vitamin C, copper and iron. It also contains over 20 amino acids which include all eight of the essential amino acids that we need.

Maca root also has a lot of health benefits especially for women. Traditionally it has been used by Peruivan couples that struggle to conceive. It's a great no downside option for women trying to balance their hormones naturally and holistically. A 2008 study proved that women's syptoms improved without any increase in both testosterone or oestrogen levels. (Journal of Menopause) Maca nurishes the pituitary gland to stimulate the production of hormones in the correct levels for our body. In addition to it balancing hormones, it also can help clear hormonal breakouts, be a game-changer for women with awful periods, helps naturally with strenth, stamina and energy for workouts, helps regulate irregualr cycles, excess facial and body hair, can help with hormonal headaches, normalize your sleep rhythm, calm anixety, mood swings and irritability and relief from hot flashes and night sweats.

Like said previously, maca root is used here in the U.S. in either powder or pill form. Maca is best consumed in the morning with either 1 tsp of powder or 2-4capulses per day. Maca root is safe to take daily but women that are pregant or breastfeeding should consult their doctor before starting to take maca powder or capsules.

I personally started using maca powder daily earlier this year as i have always had ireregular, awful periods. I was also diagnosed in 2019 with PCOS (which I was able to get into remission after changing my daily diet) and shortly after starting maca my cycles starting regulating. I started at 70 day cycles and now am closer to a 30 day cycle and maca has truly been a game-changer for my hormonal health and has been a great addition to my daily diet.
